What is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is when the jawbone associated with missing teeth weakens and is reabsorbed. It often leaves a condition in which there are poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants. In this situation, patients are no longer candidates for the placement of dental implants. With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing but at Dental Home, we have the ability to promote new bone growth in that location. Bone grafting gives us the opportunity to place implants of the proper length and width. It also gives us a chance to restore functionality and aesthetic appearance.
Here at Dental Home, our main goal is to help you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. However, there are times when it is in your best interest to have a tooth extracted. For example, when there's too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth needs to be extracted from its socket in the bone. There are basically two types of extractions: a simple extraction, where the tooth is loosened with an instrument called an elevator, and a surgical extraction, a more complex procedure, which is used if a tooth has broken off at the gum line or erupted in the mouth. Both procedures will require some form of anesthesia.
TMJ is a disorder related to your jaw joints. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, which is the name for each joint (right and left) that connects your jaw to your skull. Some types of TMJ problems can lead to more serious conditions, so early detection and treatments are important. If you have symptoms like pain or you have a “clicking” sound, you’ll be glad to know that these problems are easily diagnosed and easier to treat than they were in the past. These symptoms occur when the joints of the jaw and the chewing muscles do not work correctly together. No one specific treatment can clear TMJ disorders completely. Treatment takes time to be effective. Our experienced staff at Dental Home in North Charleston, SC, can help you have a healthier, more comfortable jaw.
